SOUTH AFRICA: RENOVATION PROJECT

RENOVATION PROJECT

Iziko Lobomi is a community centre that was created in 1994 by the Hout Bay Christian Community Association (HBCCA). This non-profit organisation is located in the township of Imizamo Yethu. It implements various sustainable development projects within the community. A devastating fire on the night of Saturday, February 7, 2004, caused by a paraffin stove accident, burned more than 350 houses, leaving more than 3,000 people homeless. The fire was aggravated and fueled by a strong wind that spread so quickly that many residents only had time to flee their homes, unable to save their personal belongings and possessions. Despite the intervention of emergency services and the Cape Town Municipality’s reconstruction project, many residents of Imizamo Yethu still live in deplorable conditions to this day. Timuntu Travel supports this project to help them renovate their homes. In this way, each traveller contributes to improving the living conditions of the local population.
