Passport
All visitors entering Cape Verde need a visa (cost: 40 euros) and a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of travel. As a European or British citizen, you can obtain a visa from the respective embassy or consulate of your country in advance or upon arrival at the international airports of Sal, Boa Vista, São Vicente and Santiago (the latter no. ‘is only valid for four weeks).

Health

No vaccine is compulsory.

Note:A Yellow Fever vaccination is required from those coming from countries with risk of Yellow Fever transmission. The international vaccination certificate can be requested upon arrival at the airport.

Following the global pandemic, Covid measures and tests can be applied from your country of origin and in your country of destination. Please consult your Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Health.

Driving License

Local and international driving licenses are required.

Cape Verde Standard Time is 1 hour less than Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -1).

Cape Verde uses the Cape Verdean escudo (CVE).

There are offices or banks where travellers can exchange money. In large cities, it is also possible to withdraw money from banks with international Visa credit cards.

Languages

The official language of Cape Verde is Portuguese but the inhabitants mainly speak Cape Verdean Creole (Crioulo in Portuguese, Kriolu or Kriol in Cape Verdean Creole).
English and French are taught at school.
